Celebrating 25 Years of Justice: A Milestone for the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation

The Illinois Equal Justice Foundation (IEJF) is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Over the past quarter-century, it has played a crucial role in providing civil legal aid to those in Illinois who face significant barriers to justice.

Having previously served on the Board of Directors and now contributing to the Grant Committee, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact of IEJF’s mission. The Foundation distributes essential state funding to nonprofit organizations across Illinois, enabling them to offer free legal assistance, valuable information, and online resources to individuals who cannot afford legal representation.

Executive Director Leslie Corbett has been a driving force behind IEJF’s success.

She shared: “When the IEJF started, it was just a one-person organization overseeing a half-million-dollar state appropriation for civil legal aid. Twenty-five years later, we have grown into a major funder of civil legal aid programs in Illinois, a trusted partner of the state of Illinois, and a national leader in bringing innovative legal aid resources to underserved communities. Board members like the fabulous Lisa Snow have lent their expertise to guide that growth.”

Here’s to many more years of making a difference!
